About Us
Doug and Linda Norris found a solution to their housing problem, while adding to their income and doing something
together that they both enjoyed. When they married in 1997 they suddenly became the parents of five grown children, one son-in-law, one
cute granddaughter, and three houses. They know that a house sitting empty goes downhill very quickly. Their community is small and not
a lot of renter possibilities.
Doug has always been an avid hunter, and Osborne County is prime time hunting for pheasant and other wild game. They were
well aware that when November rolls around hunters come in scores to shoot pheasants. And so from that, evolved the idea
of using their houses for hunting lodges.
With some time and work, attending auctions, painting and cleaning the two houses were transformed into lodges that visiting
hunters would be comfortable in. Their objective with the houses was to have comfortable beds, a living room and
television for hunters to relax in. A kitchen equipped with the necessities for preparing a meal. A house that hunters
could come into after a long day hunting and feel they could sit and relax.
Doug had some panels from other days and these were transformed into kennels for dogs complete with doghouses.
In the fall of 1998 the first of their hunting guests arrived. The first three years Doug was able to go with the hunter
during the week as well as on the weekends. These last three years he has been employed full time, so only able to go with
the hunters on the weekend. Most of the hunters have become friends, as well as regular guests. Much new business has
evolved simply by word of mouth from hunters who have been to Cottonwood Farm.
This venture proves that if you believe and work at a project, good things can envolve from it.
